TS Govt begins probe into Beas River tragedy Hyderabad, Dec 18 (INN): The Telangana Government on Thursday announced Terms of Reference for senior IAS officer Shailaja Ramaiyer to begin probe into the tragic accident which took place on June 8 this year at Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh in which 24 students of VNR Vignan Jyothi Institute of Engineering were drowned in Beas river.
The State Government, on October 14, had appointed Commissioner of Technical Education Shailaja Ramaiyer as the Inquiry Officer to probe into the incident.
However, the probe could not begin as the government had not defined the Terms of Reference. Therefore, Technical Education Secretary Vikas Raj on Thursday issued orders giving the Terms of Reference and extended the time by one month.
Shailaja Ramaiyer will not suggest to the government on steps to be taken by the Institutions while finalizing the extra-curricular activity syllabus where student and faculty are not put to risk.
The safety and security measures on industrial training during project works will also be defined. She will also suggest the punitive action against managements for negligence leading to loss of life either in campus or off campus curriculum.
