KCR clears Rs 1,000 allowance for Beedi workers Hyderabad: Fulfilling a major election promise, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Friday announced that all Beedi workers in the State would get monthly allowance of Rs 1,000 from March 1 onwards.
Addressing a press conference at the State Secretariat here, the Chief Minister said as per the Intensive Household Survey, there were 4.90 lakh Beedi workers in the State. Of them, 1.40 lakh are already getting pension under Aasra scheme. Similarly, nearly one lakh Beedi workers are getting benefits under Central Government's Provident Fund. Therefore, the proposed incentive would be given to remaining 2.5 lakh Beedi workers who are not covered under any scheme.
However, the Chief Minister appealed to the Beedi workers to submit their applications with the concerned MROs and the government would finalise the beneficiaries after conducting verification within a week. He said that initiative would primarily help the Beedi workers of Medak, Nizamabad and Karimnagar districts.
