TRS creates history in GHMC elections Hyderabad, Feb 5 (INN): From a non-entity in 2009, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi has emerged as the strongest force in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporations.
The TRS did not contest the GHMC elections held in 2009 as it had no base in the city. However, it created history by winning nearly 100 out of 150 seats in the elections held on 2nd February. TRS candidates have won from all zones of GHMC thus giving a shock to all parties.
In 2009 elections, the Congress had won 52 seats, TDP - 45, MIM - 43, BJP - 5, PRP - 1 and MBT - 1. However, except for MIM, no other party was able to withstand the TRS wave in the city. Although the MIM too is likely suffer damage on almost 25% of seats it held in last elections, the Congress and TDP party are almost wiped off with both of them unable to cross even double-digit figures. For BJP too, the damage, in terms of seats it won in last elections, is minimal.
For the first time, the TRS will be able to win the posts of Mayor and Deputy Mayor on its own without taking any support from other parties.
