TS Govt proposes to increase forest cover to 33% Hyderabad, May 29 (INN): Forest Minister Jogu Ramanna on Sunday said that the Telangana Government would constitute committees from village to Assembly constituency levels to protect the saplings being planted under Haritha Haram programme.
Speaking to media persons in Adilabad, the minister said that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao has initiated the Haritha Haram programme to increase the forests cover in Telangana to 33%. He alleged that the forests area in Telangana was reduced during the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh regime which consequently reduced the rainfall. He said that the State Government proposes to plant 10,000 saplings each in all the villages and a target of 40,000 saplings per Assembly constituency has been set. He said that Haritha Haram Committees would be formed in all villages and constituencies to ensure the protecting of those saplings.
