Laxman's account hacker had many on hit-list HYDERABAD: A 30-year-old person, Izathul Sheik, who was arrested by Kolkata police for alleged hacking and fraudulent withdrawal of Rs 40,000 from the bank account of former Test cricketer VVS Laxman, allegedly confessed to police that he wanted to try to hack email IDs of more cricket players, Bollywood actors and other business bigwigs.
It is learnt that an offender allegedly stole some high profile contacts such as emails IDs, mobile numbers that were saved in Laxman's email account.
Police suspect that the offender might have stolen Laxman's email ID from another high profile ID and he committed such offence in hacking email ID of Laxman and withdrew Rs 40,000 from Laxman's account through online transaction.
The Cyber crime police of Cyberabad, along with Kolkata police arrested Izathul Sheik on Friday and produced before the local court. He will be brought to Hyderabad on a transit warrant in a couple of days as part of the probe.
'We will take Izathul Sheik into custody and question him to find facts how he obtained email ID of Laxman and will verify whether Izathul Sheik possessed any other persons contact numbers and email IDs,' Cyberabad police said.
The Cyberabad police said that Laxman lodged a complaint with the Cyber crime police of Cyberabad alleging that he received an SMS stating that some amount was withdrawn from his personal account without his involvement.
The Cyberabad police took up investigation and found that the transactions took place in Kolkata and SMS was generated from a server of a bank from Salt Lake locality in Kolkata. The Cyberabad police informed the matter to Kolkata police who nabbed Izathul Sheik.
After shifting Izathul Sheik to the city and produced before the court, the Cyberabad police will file a petition seeking police custody of Izathul Sheik for questioning in connection with the case.
