South Coast Railway Zone to be officially notified on June 1: Union Minister
Visakhapatnam: Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw has announced that the NDA government at the Centre has allocated Rs 10,134 crore exclusively to Andhra Pradesh in the railway budget under the Double Engine Sarkar. He said that in the past, the undivided Andhra Pradesh used to receive only Rs 886 crore, whereas now the state is witnessing unprecedented railway development.
The Union Minister, who participated in foundation laying of Google data center in Visakhapatnam stated that railway projects worth Rs 1.06 lakh crore are currently under going, connecting Andhra Pradesh with major economic corridors and strengthening logistics infrastructure.
He highlighted that 74 railway stations in Andhra Pradesh are being modernised under the Amrit Bharat / Nav Nirman project, the first such large-scale initiative in the country and 832 flyovers and underpasses have been completed.He said 1,039 kilometres of new railway lines are under construction and Andhra Pradesh has achieved 100 percent railway electrification.
The Union Minister said Andhra Pradesh is emerging as a key railway hub with
16 Vande Bharat train services and
22 Amrit Bharat train services.
He added that great care has been taken in the design and manufacturing standards of the new-generation trains.
Ashwini Vaishnaw said the Centre has fulfilled one of the most important promises made during bifurcation by establishing the South Coast Railway Zone. The South Coast Railway Zone will be officially notified on June 1, 2026, he added.
The Minister said that high-speed rail connectivity for Andhra Pradesh is progressing and will soon become a reality.
Amaravati to Hyderabad Bullet Train to cover the distance in 70 minutes, Amaravati to Chennai Bullet Train to cover the distance in 112 minutes.
He further said that the existing double railway lines from Kolkata to Chennai along the East Coast corridor will be upgraded into four-line connectivity.
This corridor will support container movement,Freight trains,Passenger connectivity through 500 new train services
The Union Minister said the NDA government is ensuring justice to southern states in both development and welfare.While the Centre is focused on growth and infrastructure, opposition parties are trying to politicise every issue.
He reaffirmed that Andhra Pradesh will continue to receive full support from the Central Government for infrastructure, connectivity, and economic growth.
