Ganta and co wary of moving to TDP Visakhapatnam: The proposed entry of Minister for Ports Ganta Srinivasa Rao, along with four other MLAs' into the Telugu Desam Party fold has been deferred for the second straight time.
Ganta along with three other MLAs of the erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party--Panchakarla Ramesh Babu of Pendurthi, Chintalapudi Venkataramaiah of Gajuwaka, and Mutthamsetti (Avanti) Srinivasa Rao of Bheemunipatnam besides the Congress legislator from Elamanchili were all set to join the TDP some time ago back. But it was stopped as some of his advisers wanted him to join the YSRCP, which looked better placed to capture power in the State.
But now only Ramesh Babu seemed determined to join TDP while others put of their decision once again. Ganta had gone along with Venkatramaiah to
meet Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on Wednesday to submit resignations. But the latter had asked them to wait for a couple of days more.
Ganta had already negotiated with the TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu some time ago on the matter and the latter promised to accommodate the entire flock in the ensuing elections.
However, in the wake of reports favouring the YSRCP, he did not join the TDP. In fact, it was said YSRCP was also willing to take him but refused to commit itself on accommodating his followers.
His well-wishers asked him not to bother about his followers but take care of himself as YSRCP stood a good chance of coming to power whereas there was always the element of risk of defeat in the case of TDP.
But, Ganta seemed to have decided not to ditch his followers who depend on him for all guidance. A clearer picture is likely to emerge over the weekend.
Meanwhile, other Congress legislators in the city -Tynala Vijaya Kumar joined YSRCP ten days ago in Srikakulam and Government Whip Dronamraju Srinivasa Rao a die-hard Congressman and wants to continue in the party, much like Minister for Tribal Welfare P Balaraju. Visakhapatnam West legislator Malla Vijaya Prasad looks certain to join the YSRCP in a day or two.
