Division set to alter electoral dynamics HYDERABAD: With the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh becoming a reality, electoral dynamics in Seemandhra and Telangana are set to undergo a complete transformation.
Though clarity is still to arrive on the merger of TRS with Congress, what appears definite is an electoral alliance between the two parties in the ensuing general elections.
The combination of the Congress and the TRS might emerge as a formidable political force in Telangana with general elections hardly two months away.
The TDP could face series trouble in the region in keeping its flock together with the BJP ensuring smooth passage of the T-bill in both the Houses of Parliament.
Telangana TDP MLAs, who could not join either Congress or TRS might lean towards the saffron party. The manner in which the BJP backed the T-bill in Parliament virtually ruled out TDP's tie-up with it, even in Seemandhra.
'Even at the cost of allowing good electoral harvest for Congress and TRS in Telangana, we have backed the T-bill. Giving up the opportunity of winning the hearts of Seemandhra people by stalling the bill, we have supported the bill to protect our credibility as a national party,' said BJP leader N Janardhan Reddy.
As far as Seemandhra is concerned, till a week ago, there were signs of TDP's electoral graph raising, particularly in the context of its planned alliance with the BJP. But, the whole political scenario appears changing as the BJP unequivocally backed state bifurcation.
Seemandhra TDP leaders are repenting their earlier overtures to the BJP for an electoral understanding. They say their recent open confabulations with BJP central leaders might prove costly for the TDP in Seemandhra as people feel the saffron party had betrayed them.
Against this backdrop, the YSRC, which was visibly worried till a week ago over the possible TDP-BJP alliance, is now heaving a sigh of relief. YSRC hopes that it can perform well in Seemandhra.
