Ganta, TGV, Erasu set to join TDP Hyderabad: Former Ministers Ganta Srinivasa Rao, T G Venkatesh, Erasu Pratap Reddy, who were active during the Samaikyandhra agitation till recently are likely to join the Telugu Desam Party.
Another former minister and Nandyal MLA Shilpa Mohan Reddy and Veerabhadra Goud, a Congress leader of Alur constituency, are also likely to follow the trio.
These leaders fear rejection of the Congress in the ensuing elections, following the Centre's deci sion to bifurcate the State. While Mareppa has met TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu, TG Venkatesh and Erasu Pratap Reddy are expected to call on Naidu here soon. Venkatesh had announced his decision to quit the ministry as also the party.
Although, Venkatesh has received feelers from both the TDP and the YSRCP, the Kurnool strongman claims that he would take a decision after ascertaining the constituents' views. Pratap Reddy also quit the Cabinet and the party in protest, and more because his supporters wished that he should be out of Congress.
He had shown interest to join the YSRCP, but changed his mind after Budda Rajasekhar Reddy was given the Srisailam ticket, and Shilpa Chakrapani was selected by the TDP.
In view of the impending formation of Telangana, political equations in the district are fast changing, with the bleak future of the Congress leaders because of the public opposition to the State's bifurcation. The leaders' decision to possibly join the Telugu Desam comes in the wake of the party gaining strength in the district.
