TRS ready for merger if only KCR as CM
New Delhi: The TRS in a strategic move has now pushed the issue of merger into the court of Congress high command. The majority opinion among TRS leaders is that it would be mutually beneficial for both the Congress and TRS if they have a poll alliance instead of merger.
The TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao who called on the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday made it clear that merger with the Congress is possible only if the 'key post' (read as Chief Minister) is given to TRS.
The party feels that the TRS is formed for the formation of Telangana, but now that the State has been formed, it feels it has an added responsibility of developing Telangana. Rao also met BJP President Rajnath Singh to thank him for the support to passing the Telangana Bill in both the Houses of Parliament.
TRS leader G Vinod Kumar said that the party will discuss and take the final decision in the matter. If need be, the party will not hesitate to go it alone, he said.
Although the final decision is yet to be taken, the party is clear that it cannot go in for merger with the Congress, unless and until Chandrashekhar Rao is given the top post. Since Telangana has been formed, following the prolonged movement led by KCR, the responsibility of ensuring its development also falls on his shoulders.
During his first meeting with the Prime Minister after the creation of Telangana, Rao raised the issue of power shortage in Telangana. He urged the Prime Minister to allocate 500 mw of power from NTPC for at least a period of three years. He also sought adequate gas allocation for the Shankarapally and Nendunur Power Projects.
Only 27 IAS, 10 IPS and 15 IFS officers are available to Telangana in the present Andhra Pradesh cadre, against the requirement of 50 IAS, 35 IPS and 35 IFS officers in cadre strength of 150 for IAS, 100 IPS and 100 IFS.
A large number of Telangana officers are working in other States, who should be permitted to work for at least a period of 5 years in Telangana on deputation.
The TRS leader also raised the issue of according National Project status to Pranahita-Chevella irrigation project. He demanded inclusion of Telangana in the Special Category Status. He also sought sanctioning of AIIMS and IIM for Telangana.
