Vijayawada Mayor post now comes under general category VIJAYAWADA: With the State Election Commission (SEC) notifying the elections to municipalities and municipal corporations in the state, the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC), which has been under the control of special officers for over three-and-a-half years now, is all set to have an elected body in place by the first week of April.
The elections to all the 59 wards will be held as per the boundaries fixed in 2005. As many as 16 divisions are unreserved and an equal number of seats are reserved for women.
Ten divisions each have been reserved for BC (General) and BC (Women) categories while three each have been allotted to SC (General) and SC (Women). One seat is reserved for ST (General).
The Mayor post, which was reserved for women during the last two terms, has been thrown open for general category this time around. In 2000, the Mayor post was reserved for Women (General) and in 2005 it was reserved for Women (BC).
