Polls may force reschedule of Eamcet in State HYDERABAD: Eamcet-2014, which is slated to be held on May 17 is likely to rescheduled in view of counting of votes of the general elections on May 16.
The election notification has made Eamcet committee to rethink over conduct of exam on the earlier scheduled date in view of logistical problem that would likely to arise against the backdrop of the counting of votes, said Eamcet-2014 convenor N V Ramana Rao.
'It is sure that the exam will be either advanced or postponed. The committee will zero in on a particular date after having discussions with the government officials.
Since, it is the very next day of the counting of votes, there could be celebrations, protests or some law and order problem. So, we have decided to reschedule the exam,' he added.
However, he pointed out that the Committee will be fully prepared to carry out the exam anytime in a peaceful atmosphere.' Since, we have to transport confidential material like question papers there should not be any logistical problem.
Further, there could be possibility that some of the examination centres could be used to store EVMs. We will also talk to the Election Commission regarding this,' he explained.
Meanwhile, students feel that even if the exam is rescheduled, it should not coincide with other competitive exams. It is common that aspirants of Eamcet- either medical or engineering - register themselves for other competitive exams conducted across the country.
In engineering stream, other entrances preferred by students across the state are IIT-JEE and BITSAT. While, the JJE(Advanced) is scheduled to be held on May 25, BITS (online) exam will be conducted between May 14 and June 1.
On the other hand, for medical aspirants AIIMS and JIPMER are likely to be conducted in the first week of June.
