Daggubati quits politics Ongole: Former Minister and Congress MLA from Parchur in Prakasam district, Daggubati Venkateswar Rao announced that he was quitting active politics. The decision was taken because he was `subject' to severe stress following the State's division.
The elder son-in-law of N T Rama Rao and husband of Daggubati Purandeswari, the emotionally charged Rao made the announcement at his residence in Karamchedu. Rao was elected MLA three times (twice from Parchur and once from Martur) and was MP twice, one time each to the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha.
He thanked the people of the town for standing by him through the thick and thin for three decades. H reassured his followers that he would be available to them even though he had ended his political innings.
Regretting that he caused anguish among his followers with the decision, Rao said they had to understand his pain at the State's division. Rao also announced that Purandeswari had decided to be in active politics.
