Eluru Lok Sabha seat to witness keen contest Eluru: This politically vibrant constituency is likely to witness a four-cornered contest among YSRCP, Telugu Desam, Congress and BJP. Eluru, Dendulur, Chintalapudi, Polavaram, Ungutur Assembly segments in this district, Nuzvid, Kaikalur (in Krishna) form part of this constituency.
Fifteen MPs have represented Eluru. Kommareddi Suryanarayana (Cong), Bolla Buliramaiah(TDP) and Kavuri Sambasiva Rao have been members of the Lok Sabha on three, four and two occasions respectively. Buliramaiah and Rao were Union Ministers.
Despite the changed political scenario following the State's division, Kacuri Sambasiva Rao is likely to contest again. Having won in 2004 and 2009, Rao is aiming for a hat-trick of wins. He has a strong cadre base in all segments. Maganti Venkateswara Rao (Babu), who lost to Rao in 2009, is, of course, trying to gain sweet revenge.
Former bureaucrat, Thota Chandrasekhar, who lost the Guntur Lok Sabha seat as a PRP candidate, is ahead in house-to-house canvassing as the YSRCP nominee from Eluru. Also likely to enter the fray on behalf of BJP is Kotagiri Sridharbabu, son of the late K Vidyadhar Rao.
In the context of the Samaikyandhra agitation and the State's division, none is prepared to back the Congress. With the BJP not having much following here, the four-cornered contest may be reduced to a toss-up between the TDP and the YSRCP.
