Coalition Govts not good for the country: Jaitley Hyderabad, March 11 (INN): Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha Arun Jaitley has stated that the coalition politics at the national level was not in the interest of the country.
Participating in an interactive session with industrialists and businessman here on Tuesday, Jaitley said that the country needs a party that could provide a stable government. He said earlier the elections used to be fought on political issues.
However, the 2014 elections will be contested on the issue of governance. He said that coalition governments were not good for the country and they might create regional imbalances.
Accusing the Congress-led UPA Government of 'mis-governance', Jaitley said that the country's GDP was about 8.5% when the NDA lost power in 2004 election. Today it came down to 4.5%.
He said that schemes with attractive names do not guarantee country's development. But they need a proper mechanism for proper implementation and monitoring.
He said that the country would have been ahead of China if the reforms which were introduced in 1991, would have been brought in 1970s itself. He said that the leaders in power should take right decision at the right time.
Jaitley said that energy constitute the main components that are required for a country to achieve higher growth levels. Almost 80 per cent of the power production in India depends on Thermal Power Generation. However, the coal scam has shattered the country's economy while leaving an impact on all other sectors.
He said that if BJP returns to power at the Centre, it would encourage low-cost manufacturing on the lines of China. Further, industrialisation would be given priority at the national level. He also said that special preference would be given North East region, which was completely ignored by the UPA Government.
Jaitley appealed to the industrials and other intellectuals to join the BJP in the interest of the country. People with high knowledge and understanding of the issues, stay away from electoral politics and fail to serve the country. Therefore, he appealed to them to join the BJP to turn the dream of a strong nation into a reality.
The programme was organised by FAPCCI and was attended by the members of other industry-bodies. BJP State President G Kishan Reddy and other leaders participated in the meeting.
