Disgruntled MLA Gurunath Reddy threatens to quit YSRCP Anantapur: Discontent in the YSR Congress Party in the district surfaced on Tuesday, after Congress MP Ananta Venkatrami Reddy was admitted into the party, with MLA Gurunath Reddy and his followers threatening to quit.
The legislator held a press conference to send a message to YSRCP chief Y S Jaganmohan reddy, claiming that he had been with YS Rajasekhara Reddy and the party since its inception.
He contended that Venkatrami Reddy was admitted into YSRCP without consulting him, while expressing strong resentment against it. The party leaders and activists who learnt of Reddy's resignation plans rushed to his residence.
They raised slogans urging him not to resign. Jagan emissaries,
MLAs Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy (Punganur) and Srikanth Reddy (rayachoti) and leaders Sankar Narayana, Vishvesh Reddy, Topudurthi Chandu held talks for two hours with Gurunath Reddy and tried to persuade him to relent.
However, the MLA supporters resented Peddireddy's visit, arguing with him. They later took him to BNR Brothers. They insisted on Anantapur Mayor's post and non involvement of Venkatrami Reddy in the constituency affairs as conditions for the MLA's continuance in the party. Later Gurunath Reddy was taken to Hyderabad to explain the situation to Jagan.
Ramachandra Reddy expressed confidence that the problem would be sorted out soon. Gurunath Reddy told the media said he would continue in the party based on Jagan's instructions.
