Ponnala made TPCC chief to appease KCR
HYDERABAD: Even though the Congress high command is playing hide-and-seek with the TRS on the issue of electoral alliance between the two parties, the AICC leadership seems to be taking utmost precautions not to further ruffle the pink party leadership's feathers.
Choosing former minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah, who hails from weaker sections, as the head of the newly constituted Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) for Telangana has been seen by many as a step to appease the TRS boss K Chandrasekhara Rao.
Though several Telangana Congress heavyweights such as K Jana Reddy and D Srinivas took an intense lobbying with their Delhi bosses to become the first chief of the TPCC, the AICC leadership has preferred Ponnala to them for the top post by keeping the future relations with the TRS during the general polls in view.
Not only Lakshmaiah, but also several other office-bearers of the TPCC are not aggressive leaders and are no match to the TRS chief, which could please the pink party leadership.
However, both the TRS and the Congress continue to indulge in a shadow boxing, each trying to put the other in the dock even as back channel efforts are on for a possible electoral pact between the two parties.
