Guntur YSRCP cadre defies Jagan's diktat Guntur: The overnight decision of the YSR Congress Party chief YS Jagan in assigning responsibility of Guntur East constituency to an 'unpopular leader' sparked protest as the irate cadres stormed residence of Guntur Lok Sabha constituency party observer Bala Showry here in the early hours of Wednesday.
The supporters of YSRCP led by two coordinators of the assembly constituency, Naseer Ahmed and Shaik Showkat, attacked the house of Showry. The cadres were not in a position to relent as they were angry with the appointment of Mohammed Mustafa, little known leader of other constituency, as the in-charge of party affairs by party
chief Jagan on Tuesday night.
The agitators raised slogans against the leadership for elevation of new face by ignoring local leaders loyal to the party. The security personnel had tough time dealing with angry mob trying to gatecrash.
The situation turned tense as a large number of agitators besieged the residence of the observer leaving little scope for the security men to stop them. The furious mob destroyed the vehicle of Bala Showry on the premises of the residence. They also smashed lights and flowerpots.
The agitators alleged that Bala Showry took a bribe of some crores of rupees from Mustafa to recommend the later's name to party chief Jagan. They strongly objected to the action of the leadership in selecting Mustafa, a non-local for the post.
Mustafa's appointment had hurt sentiments of the cadres working sincerely for the party since its inception, they lamented. The agitators were in no mood to relent as they took a pledge to defeat Mustafa along with Bala Showry for being instrumental in the former's selection.
The atmosphere took a serious turn as the agitators indulged in destruction on the premises of Bala Showry residence. For about two hours, the area witnessed unruly scenes.
After some time, the police rushed to the spot and dispersed the frenzy mob. They arrested the two leaders and a couple of their loyal supporters for the attack. They were shifted to a nearest police station.
