Kothapalli's entry leads to clamour in YSRCP Eluru: There is a simmering discontent in the YSR Congress Party in the West Godavari district with differences coming out in the open. The followers of former Narsapur MLA Mudunuru Prasadaraju are peeved that Kottapalli Subbarayudu was given a party ticket to contest for the Assembly from Narasapur.
The local leaders of YSR Congress Party are in a dilemma as how they could work for Subbarayudu whom they have been opposing all these years. The followers of Prasad Raju are persuading him to resign from the YSR Congress party for being denied the Narasapuram MLA seat.
They said Raju, who worked tirelessly for the party since its inception two-and a half years ago and stood by the Party President YS Jaganmohan Reddy was treated very shabbily by the leadership. The district party leaders are worried about the fallout of the revolt against the YSRCP on the outcome of the elections.
Kottapalli Subba Rayudu was a TDP MLA for four terms, an MP for one term, and was a minister in the TDP government two times. In 2004, he contested as an MLA on the Telugu Desam Party ticket and defeated Prasadaraju of the Congress by a slender margin of 4,000 votes.
Prasadaraju, though tasted defeat, played an active role in resolving the local problems and endeared himself to the people. In 2009, Kotapalli Subbarayudu resigned from the Telugu Desam Party and joined the Praja Rajyam Party started by film actor Chiranjeevi.
However, he had to face defeat at the hands of Prasadraju of the Con
gress by a margin of over 19,000 votes. In the backdrop of YS Jaganmohan Reddy quitting the Congress and forming his own party, Prasad Raju stood by him and even lost his Assembly membership. In the byeelections held in June 2012, Kottapalli had to sweat it out to defeat M Prasadraju by a small margin of 4,500 votes.
Though he was defeated, Prasadraju took various steps for strengthening the party in the Narasapuram by conducting a door-todoor campaign.
His followers and local YSRCP leaders are deeply disappointed that Prasadraju was overlooked for the Narasapuram MLA seat which was promised to Kottapalli, who will formally join on March 14 at a public rally addressed by YS Jagan.
