Kamma votes decisive in Vijayawada LS constituency
VIJAYAWADA: While construction of the flyover on the national highway 9 at Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada city has been long pending, the demand for the overall development of the city will be key factor in the election to Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency.
The voters of Vijayawada Lok Sabha constituency, who have fought for the united state, may tilt towards the party that assures them of getting capital city of residuary Andhra Pradesh for Vijayawada.
The people here feel that Vijayawada's development was neglected by the people's representatives while there was a huge development in Hyderabad.
Since the people of Vijayawada were angry with the Congress for bifurcating the state, the chances of retaining the seat by the Congress candidate are very slim.
Development of Gannavaram airport as an international one, besides development of IT and other industries that provide jobs to locals and check migration to Hyderabad are the other demands from the locals.
Vijayawada is said to be a stronghold of 'Kammas' and they would decide the fate of the MP candidate. Lagadapati Rajagopal won the seat as Congress nominee for the second consecutive term in 2009 with a small margin of 12,712 votes.
This Lok Sabha constituency consists of Vijayawada East, Vijaywada West, Vijayawada Central, Mylavaram, Jaggaiahpet, Tiruvuru (SC) and Nandigama (SC) Assembly seats.
