Ponnala Vaishali trying for Jangaon seat Jangaon (Warangal): District Mahila Congress leader Ponnala Vaishali, touted to be the heir to TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah, is planning to use the ensuing polls as the launch pad for success.
She is aspiring to contest the Jangaon Assembly seat, held by her father-in-law Lakshmaiah. She has been making serious efforts to convince the party to allot the ticket to her. Before the delimitation of constituencies, Vaishali had contested the Cheriyal Assembly by-election and lost.
Determined to succeed, she has been preparing groundlevel work, besides lobbying for the party ticket. She has reportedly suggested to Lakshmaiah to contest to the Lok Sabha from Bhongir in Nalgonda district. But he was not convinced and dismissed it.
He reportedly told her to contest the Warangal zilla parishad chairperson post, which is reserved for women. He promised to find a suitable constituency in the next Assembly polls after the delimitation of constituencies.
Vaishali has been insisting on Jangaon seat. Appointment of Lakshmaiah as TPCC chief has made things difficult to her, as he finalises the candidates' list. She has been contacting party leaders in Delhi to get the ticket.
Recently she met AICC general secretary Digvijay Singh. However they were not favourably inclined, party sources said.
