Maganti opposes Kavuri entry into TDP HYDERABAD: West Godavari TDP leader Maganti Babu, is going through tense moments. The reason: Union minister Kavuri Sambasiva Rao might find himself in NTR Trust Bhavan sooner than later.
More than any one, it is Babu who is watching the developments on Sambasiva Rao front and unable to contain his bottled up emotions. He blurted out saying if Chandrababu Naidu admits Sambasiva Rao, it would spell doom for the party's prospects in the entire Seemandhra.
Babu has been keen on Eluru Lok Sabha constituency and hoped that he would be fielded by the party. As Congress is in a discredited state, Babu is understood to have felt that his election would be a mere formality.
But Sambasiva Rao, who is feeling increasingly suffocated staying in the Congress as people blame the party for division of the state, has of late been examining the options available to him. The only alternative that apparently appealed to him is the TDP since the party is identified with Kamma leadership.
As Sambasiva Rao has been with the Congress for decades, his appearance next to Chandrababu Naidu might make him look an odd man. He held a meeting with party workers but could not make up his mind.
Though Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi and AICC general secretary Digvijaya Singh spoke to Sambasiva Rao, they also got nowhere as Kavuri was believed to have told them that he wanted to quit the party. But he would not say if he would retire from politics or join some other party.
The developments had disquieting influence on Maganti Babu and probably as a preemptive strategy he sounded a warning to Naidu that as people see Kavuri as a villain of Samaikyandhra, his presence in the TDP might play spoil sport with the TDP candidates not only in West Godavari but in the entire coastal belt. It remains to be seen what Naidu would do if Kavuri wants to don yellow robes.
