Ravi's entry may spoil Gadde's chances in Vijayawada Vijayawada: Former MP Gadde Ramamohan (TDP) is likely to face trouble, as defectors continue to flock to the party, posing a threat to his candidature for the Vijayawada East Assembly seat.
With sitting member Yalamanchili Ravi (Cong) joining TDP, Ramamohan doubts whether he will get a chance. He had lost in 2009 in the triangular fight with Devineni Rajasekhar Nehru (Cong) and Ravi (then of PRP).
With Congress image taking a beating and continuing defections, Ramamohan expected a landslide victory. But, he fears that Ravi's return to the party would cast a shadow on his candidature.
Ravi, a rival of Nehru, comes from a Congress family. His father, Yalamanchili Nageswara Rao, contested twice against Nehru, when the latter was in TDP.
However, political equations reversed with Nehru joining Congress and the Yalamanchili family shifting to TDP in late 1990s. Subsequently, Rao defeated Nehru in Kankipadu in 1999, but lost in 2004.
After Rao's death, Ravi remained in TDP till PRP was set up. He won in 2009 from Vijayawada East, as Kankipadu was cancelled in reorganisation the same year.
Ramamohan is worried about his future because of the party decision to field his wife, Anuradha, for the ZP chairperson's post. He suspects the party might deny him the ticket. They have already expressed fears to the party leaders and are said to have secured an assurance from party MP YS Chowdary.
Anuradha is understood to have indicated her disinterest to contest the ZP polls, if the party denied ticket to him. The couple is firm on a ticket to Ramamohan, as they believe that the party had pulled him out of his stronghold, Gannavaram, for political adjustments. Their family suspects that the party might deny ticket to Ramamohan this time also as Ravi has to be accommodated.
