Nagarjuna meets Modi, says No to Politics Hyderabad, 24 March: Another Tollywood actor Akkineni Nagarjuna met Narendra Modi in Gandhinagar today amid speculation that he might join the BJP. After the meeting, Nagarjuna, 54, said that he was "inspired by Modiji and he will be the next PM." The actor also said that he wanted to meet the leader who will lead the country in 2014. He, however, remained non-committal on whether he was joining the BJP.
When asked about his political plans he plainly said he has no such political plans as he is not interested in politics. Asked about reports that he met Modi to seek LS ticket for his actor wife Amala, he clarified 'I have no interest in politics. I have not sought ticket for my wife Amala. Iam confident Modi will become PM'.
Commenting on his meeting that went for more than 40 minutes, Nagarjuna said, i have visited one model village in Gujarat before meeting Modi. It was great. I happened to see this kind of development only in China and in the west.
My meeting with Modi was cordial and centred around development and future of India. I am really impressed with the the way how Modi changed the destiny of every village in his state. Nation, at present, needs a tall personality like Modi to take country forwards. I met Modi at the behest of Venkaiah Naidu', he added.
Nagarjuna is the second film star from the south to meet the BJP's prime ministerial candidate after Pawan Kalyan, the brother of actor and union minister K Chiranjeevi.
The meetings signal the BJP's intent to win as many friends and allies as possible ahead of the national election which is just about two weeks away. Both Nagarjuna and Pawan Kalyan are from Andhra Pradesh.
His compatriot Pawan Kalyan, a popular Telugu actor who floated the Jana Sena earlier this month, met Mr Modi in Ahmedabad on Friday and said he supported him for the prime minister's post.
The youngest brother of Chiranjeevi had described Mr Modi as the right man for the top job and declared his support "on behalf of Telugu-speaking people of both Telangana and Andhra Pradesh."
