After shutting door on Cong, TRS woos CPI
Hyderabad: Having ruled out merger and even an alliance with the Congress, TRS today sought to reach out to CPI which is being wooed by the Congress also in view of the left party's crucial support base in Telangana. CPI had four MLAs in the outgoing Andhra Pradesh legislative Assembly, all from Telangana region. CPI has consistently taken a pro-Telangana stance.
TRS leader K Keshav Rao, who heads the committee set up by party president K Chandrasekhar Rao on alliances, went to CPI office here and held talks with CPI state secretary K Narayana and other leaders.
"Talks were held in a cordial atmosphere," Rao told reporters after the meeting, which comes at a time when CPI is also considering a tie-up with Congress. Narayana, however, rued that the proposals submitted earlier by his party to TRS evoked no response.
"We had given a list with 22 MLAs and 3 MPs (seats from where CPI wants to contest) to them (TRS). We don't know what they discussed all these days. But they came again today. We gave specific proposals again today. We said you should decide by today," he told reporters.
Doing some plain-speaking, he wondered why the TRS leadership did not respond when the CPI senior leaders tried to speak to them.
"We told them that TRS leader Chandrasekhar Rao keeps saying in the press that we (TRS) are speaking to CPI. But there was no response to us when we telephoned. Even when Suravaram Sudhakar Reddy (CPI General Secretary) called, he did not give response. There was no response when I called. He (TRS president) himself admitted yesterday that Narayana and Sudhakar Reddy called, but I could not speak.
"Is he so busy that he could not speak to us? It gives the impression that they are only trying to delay. Such delay is not good. Politics is about partnership. If it is acceptable, you accept it. Or, you don't. We told them not to waste time. Once they get back, we will give our views," he said. Keshav Rao said they would get back possibly by tomorrow.
CPI is also considering a tie-up with Congress for the elections in Telangana. General and Legislative Assembly polls in undivided Andhra Pradesh are scheduled to be held in Telangana region on April 30.
