YSRCP supporters say `no' to Cong MLAs entry Eluru: The future of Congress appears uncertain in Tanuku in West Godavari district as nobody is willing to risk contesting on the party ticket following the bifurcation of the State. Tanuku MLA Karumuri Venkata Nageswara Rao had recently quit the post and the party membership.
So far, he did not join any other party. From the Telugu Desam Party, YT Raja and Aramilli Radhakrishna are in the race. Cheerla Radhaiah is likely to be the YSR Congress Party candidate.
Though YT Raja and Radhakrishna are in the list of probables, the Mullapudi family, which has been extending support to the TDP right from the beginning, says Raja should make way for Radhakrishna this time.
Karumuri is said to be making efforts to join the TDP. But the Mullapudi family, party cadres and the BC leaders are opposing his entry.
While the candidature of Cheerla Radhaiah is almost finalised, the YSRCP leadership is yet to confirm this. Facing stiff opposition from the TDP cadres, Karumuri is said to be exploring his chances in the YSRCP.
Interestingly, Radhaiah also was a Congress leader. He joined the YSRCP and has come to occupy an important position now. Since then, differences cropped up between Karumuri and Radhaiah.
These differences have become a hindrance to Karumuri's entry into the YSRCP. The weaker sections, which are backing Radhaiah, are hell-bent on blocking Karumuri's entry into the party.
Consequently, Karumuri is left with only one option ' to contest as an Independent. However, he is still optimistic. He is said to be willing to contest on the TDP ticket from some other constituency like Denduluru or Achanta.
