Fissures in TJAC over 'Political Migrations' HYDERABAD: The recent induction of Konda Surekha, her husband Konda Murali and Tandur MLA T Mahender Reddy into the TRS has not gone down well with some leaders of the Telangana Joint Action Commitee (political).
Alleging that the Konda couple had never wholeheartedly backed the Telangana movement and even resorted to crackdown on Telangana supporters by filing cases against them, some TJAC leaders are learnt to have expressed their displeasure over their induction into the pink party.
They also disapproved of the ongoing efforts of the TRS leadership to allot party nominations to them and some other new entrants at the cost of the old guard, who had worked hard in the Telangana movement.
According to sources, at the TJAC steering committee meeting held here Friday under the chairmanship of Prof M Kodandaram, some of the heads of the district units of the TJAC raised serious objections to the way in which different parties, including the TRS, were trying to give tickets to these 'political migrants'.
They are learnt to have demanded that a clear stand be taken by the TJAC on the issue of parties giving tickets to leaders who had not contributed anything to the Telangana movement.
They also insisted that TJAC leadership pass a resolution to this effect at the meeting. However, this had led to heated arguments among the TJAC members forcing the leadership to abruptly end the meeting, sources said.
'Leaders of the district JACs raised objections to the admission of the Konda couple into the TRS. Inviting such leaders is against the very spirit of the movement,' said a leader.
'Telangana activists, who went through several hardships and difficulties, at personal and professional levels, by their active participation are being ignored now by all parties,' some of them opined.
It is learnt that the proposed alliance between the BJP and the TDP was also severely criticised by the TJAC. 'TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu had made all-out attempts to stall the T process in Parliament.
How can the BJP try to join hands with the TDP now?' they felt. The TJAC has decided to hold its next meeting on April 3 to discuss various issues including the stand to be adopted in the elections.
OUJAC to Contest 41 Assembly Seats
Osmania University Students' JAC has decided to field their candidates in at least 41 Assembly segments in Telangana in the ensuing general elections. They resolved to allot majority of the tickets to those who had worked hard in the Telangana movement.
