Congress gives up on poll deal with TRS New Delhi: Setting at rest the speculation over possible revival of alliance talks with Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS), the Congress today said that the party was going ahead with plans to fight the coming elections on its own.
"TRS has already closed its doors on us and we are happy with it," the AICC General Secretary in-charge of Andhra Pradesh affairs Digvijay Singh said here today. He was replying to the queries from the media regarding reports that the two parties are prepared to hold negotiations for a poll tie-up.
Singh's assertion reflects a sense of resignation in the Congress camp that it will have to fight the electoral battle alone since TRS is not willing to yield any ground to the ruling party.
Now, the battle lines appear to be clearly drawn in the region with TRS and Congress vying with each other to claim the sole credit for achieving statehood for the region.
The AICC leader said that his party would proceed with electoral alliance with CPI. "The CPI will contest one Lok Sabha and ten assembly seats in Telangana," he said.
There is already a war of words going on between TRS and Congress on who shour take credit for fulfilling the statehood dream of the Telangana people.
While the Telengana Campaign Committee member Umesh Rao accused TRS Chief K Chandrasekhar Rao of trying to apportion to himself the entire credit, KCR, on his part, accused Congress party of playing with the interests of the Telangana people.
The Congress would shortly announce the list of candidates for Lok Sabha and Assembly seats.Meanwhile, several senior party leaders including MPs and MLAs are camping in Delhi, holding talks with Digvijay Singh.
"The EC has met and we have shortlisted some candidates. As soon as the candidates are finalised, the list will be announced," Singh said.
Umesh Rao took pot shots at KCR, wh is his close relative, and predicted that KCR would never come to power in Telangana State as he was making false promises to the people. "It is because of Sonia that the people of Telangana have now realised their dream," he said.
