Temperatures set to soar in city Hyderabad: With the maximum temperature reaching 40 degree Celsius on Tuesday, Met officials have cautioned denizens that mercury levels will soar as high as 44 degree Celsius.
Met officials forecasted that the temperature will keep increasing and there will be no respite from heat until the onset of south-west monsoons after June.
Assistant Meteorologist M Narasimha Rao said, 'The maximum temperature reached 40 degree Celsius in the city and this trend will continue for few more days. Though there might be slight fluctuations in the maximum temperature, it will surge steadily.'
He said that it was not unusual for the maximum temperature to reach 40 degree Celsius in April and said that the mercury level had touched its maximum in the city during June 1966 with a record of 45.5 degrees Celsius.
However the all-time record for the highest maximum temperature during April was in 1973 where the mercury level soared up to 43.3 degree Celsius. He forecasted that the temperature could reach 43 degree Celsius this month and reach 44-45 degrees during May and June,' he said.
Topping the list, Mahabubnagar district registered a high record of 43 degree Celsius, followed by Bhadrachalam and Nalgonda with 41 degree Celsius. In Hanamkonda, Adilabad and Ramagundam the mercury level soared to 40 degree Celsius this month.
The Met official said that so far there was no sign of a heat wave in the city. 'Currently heat waves are present only in coastal districts of AP, for which we have notified Visakhapatnam, Prakasam and Nellore districts,' he said.
Meanwhile, due to extreme heat, many roads in the city wear an abandoned look during afternoons. Parents fear that their children might fall prey to sun strokes or dehydration. Adding to people's woes are frequent power cuts.
