Chiru meets fans to enlist support for Congress HYDERABAD: Seemandhra Congress Campaign Committee chairman Chiranjeevi on Tuesday conferred with his fans to garner their support in the general elections.
Along with Chiranjeevi, Semandhra PCC president N Raghuveera Reddy and former minister Vatti Vasanata Kumar participated in the meeting explaining to the fans how important it is for them to support Chiranjeevi and help the Congress bounce back in Seemandhra.
The Congress central leaders, after watching the lukewarm response to the bus yatra of state leaders, decided that they should use Chiranjeevi's popularity fully and accordingly wanted the party to enlist the support of his fans.
This is also to prevent Chiranjeevi fans from drifting away from him in the wake of his brother Pawan Kalyan floating a party and going to town with a call to support Modi and BJP.
According to Raghuveera Reddy, the fans of Chiranjeevi would be encouraged to enrol themselves in the party and they could even apply for party tickets in Seemandhra. Where it is possible, the party would definitely consider them.
Earlier in the day, the election committee of Seemandhra met at Indira Bhavan in Hyderabad and made the exercise of shortlisting candidates who have applied for tickets for Assembly and Lok Sabha seats.
Raghuveera Reddy said there was no dearth of candidates and that they have received 1,160 applications for 175 Assembly and 175 applications for 25 Lok Sabha seats in Seemandhra. All sitting MLAs and MPs, if they desire to contest on Congress ticket, would be re-nominated, he said.
