Narayana to contest from Khammam for LS HYDERABAD: The CPI has finalised the name of its state secretary K Narayana for the Khammam Lok Sabha seat, at a meeting at Khammam on Tuesday.
The Congress, which is in the process of forging an alliance with the CPI, is planning to field its own candidate from Khammam. Senior leaders Renuka Chowdhury, Ramreddy Venkata Reddy, MLC P Sudhakara Reddy and others are learnt to be pressurising their party high command not to give Khammam seat to the CPI.
As a part of the alliance, the CPI is seeking two LS seats and 17 Assembly seats, but Congress is willing to offer only one LS and 12 Assembly seats. If Congress also offers Nalgonda LS seat to the CPI, the latter is considering the name of CPI national secretary Suravaram Sudhakara Reddy for the seat.
Meanwhile, the CPM Telangana unit on Tuesday released the second list of its 12 Assembly candidates for the ensuing polls. With this, the CPM has announced candidates for 17 Assembly seats in Telangana.
The party last week announced candidates for three Lok Sabha and five Assembly seats. The candidates announced on Tuesday are: Noorjahan (Banswada), Mohammed Wajid Ali (Patancheru), B Mallesh (Sangareddy), Syed Hasheem (Nalgonda), Mamidi Sarvaiah (Nakirekal), Jabbar (Kollapur), Sabbani Latha (Nizamabad), Mettu Srinivas (Warangal East), A Malla Reddy (Janagam), Lanka Raghavulu (Adilabad), Y Yakaiah (Godavarikhani) and M Srinivas (Musheerabad).
Speaking to reporters, CPM Telangana unit chief Tammineni Veerabhadram said, 'Our main aim is to stop Congress and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP ) from coming to power.' If the CPI stays away from the Congress, CPM is ready to support CPI state secretary Narayana in Khammam Lok Sabha election.
CPM had contested 2009 elections in alliance with Telugu Desam Party (TDP), Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) and the CPI, but was able to win only one Assembly seat in Andhra Pradesh.
On joining hands with TRS, Veerabhadaram said, 'If TRS comes up with such a proposal, we will discuss it in the party.' R eplying to a question, he said CPM is not discussing with YSR Congress on any kind of poll alliance.
