Sonia meeting in Hyderabad on April 16 Hyderabad : In a move to reap rich electoral dividends from the UPA government's decision to grant Statehood for the Telangana, Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi will address a series of public meetings in the region later this month.
The ruling party leaders have been harping on the campaign theme that it was solely because of Sonia Gandhi's bold strategy that the Statehood dream of the people of Telangana has been realized.
The Telangana Congress Committee has drawn up an aggressive campaign strategy to drive home this point. As per the plan, Rahul will address rallies on April 13 while Sonia will tour the region on April 16. Their visit is expected to energize the party cadre in the region ahead of the April 30 polling.
Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president Ponnala Lakshmaiah and campaign committee chairman C Damodar Rajanarasimha are engaged in chalking out the tour plans and venues of public meetings to be addressed by Sonia and Rahul.
Though the high command is yet to confirm the participation of Sonia and Rahul so far, the TPCC is confident of bringing the top leaders to the region to shore up the party's poll prospects.
Sources close to Lakshmaiah said that while Sonia would address the meeting in Hyderabad, Rahul might address a rally in Warangal or Karimnagar. Sonia Gandhi may address her second public meeting in Adilabad or Mahbubnagar.
The Telangana Congress leaders are keen on ensuring that the party gets the entire credit for granting Statehood. In this context, the party leaders believe that the message of the mother-son duo would be more effective and fetch the desired results. The party is keen on projecting Sonia as the savior of Telangana people.
