Ganta decides to contest for Vizag LS seat
Visakhapatnam: Former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has decided to contest from the Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha constituency. The TDP president had already given Ganta the choice to contest either for the Assembly or the Lok Sabha. Ganta weighed the pros and cons before taking the decision to contest for Parliament, it is learnt.
The former minister has opted for the Vizag seat in the wake of the TDP-BJP poll pact. The urban voters are inclined towards Narendra Modi in keeping with the trend elsewhere and he considers his chances of winning the seat are brighter here.
He thinks the strong TDP base combined with the support from the BJP would see him through with a comfortable margin unless, of course, Y S Sharmila is pitted against him as YSRCP candidate.
This would mean that State BJP president and former MLA K Haribabu will have to settle for an Assembly seat or not contest at all as he has to handle the BJP electioneering across the State.
Haribabu, till recently, expressed the desire to contest for Parliament from Visakhapatnam as Narendra Modi is most likely to become the next Prime Minister.
'As State BJP president, it is only fair that he should be allotted the Vizag Lok Sabha seat if he wishes to contest. We don't think Chandrababu Naidu will say no,' said a BJP leader. But the TDP president seems to prefer Ganta, who is closer to him and confident of winning the seat.
