Congress to form first govt in Telangana Hyderabad: Senior Congress leader and Union minister Jairam Ramesh on Friday expressed confidence that the Congress party would form the first government in the new Telangana State.
Addressing party workers and later media at Kodad in Nalgonda district, Jairam asserted that the Congress party would emerge victorious in the Assembly elections in Telangana Assembly and form the very first government in the new State.
He said Congress president Sonia Gandhi had kept her word in creation of separate Telangana State, facing all odds and now it was the turn of the Telangana people to reciprocate her gesture by voting for the Congress party in Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.
Hailing Sonia's commitment, Jairam said she had taken the bold decision anticipating political loss in Seemandhra region. The peaceful movement in Telangana region for long inspired her, he said and ridiculed TRS president K Chandrasekhara Rao's tall claims in this regard.
'Even before TRS came into existence, more than 40 Congress MLAs had pleaded with the Centre to bifurcate the State. All the 12 Congress MPs in the outgoing Lok Sabha played a constructive role in Lok Sabha in perusing their demand, while the TRS had really no role to play,' he said.
The union minister alleged that the BJP had played dual role in both the Houses of Parliament. While the party supported State re-organization bill in Lok Sabha, its senior leader M Venkaiah Naidu had tried in vain to scuttle the process in Rajya Sabha, he alleged.
He said that the main Opposition Party in State Assembly, the TDP, too played both the cards and confused the people, he added. 'Except the Congress, no other party can do justice to both the regions,' he said and assured irrigation facilities to each acre in Telangana.
He also promised to allot the entire coal production to the region and establish a 4 000 MW mega power plant in the new State to solve the power problem.
The union minister also promised tax holiday for 10 years, in all the Telangana districts except Hyderabad. He said the new State would have 20 districts for better administration and appealed to the people to vote for Congress for better future.
