Balayya to contest from Hindupur HYDERABAD: Actor Nandamuri Balakrishna is all set to make his political debut by contesting the Assembly elections from Hindupur constituency in Anantapur district on Telugu Desam Party ticket.
TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu reportedly cleared the candidature of his brother-in-law from Hindupur Assembly constituency, while finalizing the second list of candidates for Seemandhra late on Friday night.
The notification for the 175 Assembly seats and 25 Lok Sabha seats in Seemandhra region will be issued on Saturday. The last date of filing the nomination is April 19.
Sources said there was a stiff resistance to Balakrishna's candidature from his own brother Nandamuri Harikrishna, who had represented this constituency in the past.
Harikrishna was also very keen on contesting the elections from Hindupur, but Naidu reportedly asked him to contest from Penamaluru constituency in Krishna district. Balakrishna is expected to file his papers either on April 16 or 17 after meeting TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu to get a formal approval of his candidature.
Hindupur Assembly constituency is considered to be the safest seat for the party and Balakrishna as the party never lost an election here since its inception in 1983.
The delay in the release of list was because of the lately alliance with BJP on several seats. Telugu Desam is fielding only 113 candidates out of total 175 segments leaving other seats for BJP.
