Parthasarathi quits Congress, joins YSRC HYDERABAD: In another body blow to the Congress in Seemandhra, former secondary education minister Kolusu Parthasarathi and former deputy Speaker of the AP Legislative Assembly Buragadda Veda Vyas, who are considered heavyweights of the party in Krishna district, joined the YSRC Saturday.
Both Parthasarathi and Veda Vyas were formally inducted into the YSRC by party chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy at his residence. Speaking to reporters after joining the party, Parthasarthi said they had joined the YSRC as they believed that only Jagan could reconstruct the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh from scratch.
In fact, Parthasarathi's decision to join the YSRC instead of former chief minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy's Jai Samaikyandhra Party is a shocker to Kiran as the former was considered his trusted lieutenant till the other day. Parthasarathi is representing Penamaluru Assembly segment in Krishna district.
According to sources, YSRC might field Parthasarathi either from Machilipatnam Lok Sabha seat or from Penamaluru Assembly segment.
It is learnt that the former minister had earlier preferred to join TDP if he was given an assurance to contest from either of these seats. However, TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu reportedly did not oblige to his demand as TDP member Konkalla Narayana Rao represents Machilipatnam Lok Sabha seat.
Naidu was also not keen on allotting the Penamaluru Assembly seat to Parthasarathi as the party was planning to field a powerful Kamma leader from the seat where the caste is dominant.
Following this, the former minister is understood to have joined the YSRC after getting an assurance from the party leadership that he would be fielded from Penamaluru Assembly seat.
