Congress Seemandhra list likely on Monday HYDERABAD: With an emphasis on 'social engineering, the AICC is likely to release its first list of candidates for Seemandhra on Monday for the ensuing polls.
Sources said the AICC leadership is planning to field candidates from weaker sections for majority of seats, particularly for Assembly polls, so as to create an atmosphere among people that bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh indeed helps the people from the downtrodden classes go up the political ladder.
AICC state affairs in-charge Digvijaya Singh told reporters in Delhi on Saturday that they had almost finalised the list of his party candidates for Seemandhra. They would start releasing the list from Monday onwards.
Earlier in the day, AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi, party vice-president Rahul Gandhi and Digvijaya Singh held a marathon meeting with the Seemandhra Congress seniors at 10 Janpath in Delhi to shortlist the names of the party candidates for Seemandhra.
The meeting was attended by APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy, party campaign committee chairman K Chiranjeevi and former APCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana. According to sources, the AICC leadership has not yet taken a final decision with regard to selection of candidates in about 50 to 60 Assembly segments.
