BJP gets Vizag LS, Araku goes to TDP HYDERABAD: The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has, as agreed earlier, decided to give Visakhapatnam Lok Sabha seat to the saffron party.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will now be contesting four Lok Sabha seats instead of five and 14 Assembly seats instead of 15 in Seemandhra. The saffron party has decided to give Araku (ST) Lok Sabha constituency to the TDP.
The BJP has has minimal presence in Araku constituency. Moreover, it is spread over four districts and it would be very difficult for the BJP to mobilise support.
Now the party will be contesting Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Narsapuram and Rajampet Lok Sabha seats. It is learnt that the BJP would get one MLC seat for surrendering Araku seat to the yellow party.
When YSR Congress announced that its honorary president Vijayamma would be its candidate for Visakhapatnam LS, the TDP felt BJP candidate K Haribabu would not be able to take on her. TDP wanted to pit former minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao against her. The party was even willing to give BJP the Kakinada LS seat in exchange.
However, BJP did not agree to the proposal and after a long discusion the yellow party bowed down. BJP state incharge Prakash Javadekar was forced to make a dash for Hyderabad on Sunday afternoon to finalise the deal.
The Assembly seats that the BJP will be contesting in Seemandhra are: Visakhapatnam North, Narasaraopet, Rajahmundary Urban, Tadepallygudem, Nellore Rural, Madanapally, Paderu, Kadapa, Santhanuthalapadu, Guntakal/Anantapur, Kaikalur, Ichapuram, Vijayawada West and Kodumur.
