Sonia, Rahul to campaign in Seemandhra HYDERABAD: The Congress Party, which is still unable to finalise the 'full itinerary' of AICC chief Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul Gandhi's tour in Telangana, is now considering organising public meetings to be addressed by the two leaders across Seemandhra so as to rejuvenate the party cadre there.
Andhra PCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy said Sonia and Rahul will explain to the people how the Congress had persuaded the Centre to deliver special status to the residual AP to make it progress on all fronts.
After holding parleys with his party bosses in Delhi over finalising the list of candidates for Seemandhra, Raghuveera came back to Hyderabad on Sunday, along with APCC campaign committee chief K Chiranjeevi.
The APCC president said, 'We are planning to hold public meetings in Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Anantapur. These meetings would be addressed by Madam Sonia and Rahul Ji. Soon, we will finalise the dates for these meetings.'
He further divulged that his party leadership had finalised the candidates list for a majority of Lok Sabha and Assembly seats in Seemandhra.
Raghuveera also dropped hints that the AICC high command would allot maximum tickets to leaders from weaker sections so as to do 'social justice' to the oppressed classes. He also indicated that the party leadership might pick new and young faces in several segments in the region to resuscitate the party.
On the other hand, though the AICC leadership informed the Telangana PCC leadership about the proposed visits of Sonia and Rahul to Telangana, the Telangana Congress leaders are yet to get the detailed tour schedule of the two leaders.
For now, only two public meetings-one at Karimnagar on April 16 and another at Warangal on April 17-to be addressed by Sonia and Rahul respectively are finalised.
Though the AICC leadership has informed the Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee that Sonia and Rahul want to address some more meetings, in South Telangana, the venues of the meetings are yet to be decided.
Following this, there is a feeling among T-Congress leaders that they are lagging behind other parties, particularly the TRS and the Telugu Desam Party, in undertaking vigorous campaign across the T-region to cash in on the formation of the new State.
