Cong puts up 'Weaker' face in Seemandhra HYDERABAD: The Congress high command on Sunday night released its first of candidates for 20 Lok Sabha and 139 Assembly seats in Seemandhra.
With most of its old guard in the region jumping ship in the wake of State division, it seems to be banking on new and young faces this time ' a majority of them from weaker sections. It, however, preferred to retain sitting MPs and MLAs.
Of the 20 candidates for LS seats, the party nominated former minister Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy for Narasaraopet LS segment and his son Mahesh Reddy for the same Assembly constituency. Devineni Avinash, son of Congress veteran Devineni Rajasekhar alias Nehru, has been fielded for the Vijayawada Lok Sabha seat following the expulsion of Lagadapati Rajagopal.
In Nellore, the party decided to field Vakati Narayana Reddy whereas Thota Vijaya Lakshmi has been nominated for Anakapalli.
As far as Assembly candidates are concerned, former minister Kanna Lakshminarayana has been fielded from Guntur West and APCC chief N Raghuveera Reddy from Penugonda.
Former PCC chief Botcha Satyanarayana will test his luck from Cheepurupalle and Speaker N Manohar from Tenali. Sailajanath, who till the other day moved closely with Jai Samaikyandhra Party chief Kiran Reddy, has been renominated from Singanamala (SC) segment.
Except Visakhapatnam (South) where Dronamraju Srinivas has been renominated, in all the other Assembly segments in the district, women have been fielded. Union Minister Panabaka Lakshmi's husband Krishnaiah has been nominated from Gudur.
