Congress MP Magunta goes over to TDP HYDERABAD: In what could be seen as another setback to the Congress in Seemandhra, party's sitting MP from Ongole Magunta Srinvasulu Reddy is understood to have decided to join the TDP. He is expected to contest Ongole Lok Sabha seat on the yellow party's ticket.
In another development, Congress MLA Vellampalli Srinivas, who represents Vijayawada West Assembly segment, quit the party on Monday to join the BJP. He is expected to contest the same seat on BJP nomination. Srinivas was elected from the constituency during 2009 polls on erstwhile Praja Rajyam Party's ticket.
Interestingly, he took this decision a day after the AICC leadership had announced his name in the party's first list of candidates for Seemandhra on Sunday.
Party veteran and former minister Kasu Venkata Krishna Reddy, who is being fielded for Narsaraopet Lok Sabha seat, also publicly expressed his displeasure for not consulting him while picking the party candidates for the Assembly segments which fall under the Lok Sabha constituency.
Though the AICC leadership gave party ticket to his son Mahesh Reddy for Narsaraopet Assembly segment, the Congress veteran disapproved of his party leadership ignoring him while finalising party nominees for Assembly segments.
Meanwhile, some of the leaders who could not secure Congress tickets in Seemandhra have begun expressing their ire openly.
For instance, some of the youth Congress leaders in Anantapur on Monday attacked the party office there and ransacked the furniture for ignoring their candidatures in the Congress candidates' list.
They resorted to this act even as former minister Sake Sailajanath was holding a meeting with local leaders there.
Similarly, in Eluru, protesting against the selection of Venkata Padama Raju as the Congress nominee for Eluru Assembly seat, local Congress workers attacked the Congress office there and damaged the furniture.
