EC watches Legend, decision soon HYDERABAD: The otherwise busy officials of the Election Commission on Thursday took a short break to watch a Telugu movie, Legend, in which Nandamuri Balakrishna played the lead role.
Their action followed a complaint lodged by the YSR Congress Party five days ago that the screening of the movie would influence the electorate in favour of the Telugu Desam Party.
The film's protagonist, Balakrishna, is contesting on a Telugu Desam Party ticket for the Assembly seat from Hindupur in Anantapur district and is also a star campaigner for the Telugu Desam Party.
In the wake of complaints from the YSR Congress, the chief electoral officer Bhanwar Lal referred the matter to the media monitoring committee of the commission.
As perthe directions of the chief election commissioner, the media monitoring panel asked the film producer to supply one DVD of the film in question. The film's producers screened 'Legend' exclusively for the election officials at Prasad's Imax here on Thursday.
Election Commission officials, including deputy chief electoral officer A Sri Devasena and other members of the media monitoring committee watched the movie.
Bhanwar Lal will decide whether to order suspension of the film's screening temporarily after the committee submits its report to him. 'Our officials watched the movie and will give their report,' Lal said.
