Congress cautious reaction in KVP case HYDERABAD: Even as the Congress Party seems to have taken a hard stance on its Rajya Sabha member KVP Ramachandra Rao, who is facing charges in connection with titanium mining case in the US, the CID officials T Krishna Prasad and other called on governor's advisor AN Roy at the Secretariat here.
However, Rao's issue did not figure in the meeting, sources said. Roy did not receive any official information regarding Rao's case except media reports.
Interestingly, while speaking to reporters in Delhi, AICC spokesperson and Union minister Anand Sharma said law should take its own course with regard to Rao's issue.
'Whoever has been indicted should be proceeded as per law. It is for the concerned person to give his explanation on the issue. After he gives his explanation, the due process of law would be set in motion,' Anand Sharma said.
'It is for the concerned MP to clarify his position. If he is to be held accountable or not, it is a matter between him and law,' he added.
Meanwhile, AICC state affairs incharge Digvijaya Singh, feigned ignorance when reporters sought his comment on the reports that the FBI has begun making efforts for the extradition of the Rajya Sabha member to USA to question him about his role in the titanium mining case.
'I am not aware of the case. I will react on it only after going through the details of the case,' Digvijaya said.
It may be mentioned that in a letter sent by American National Crime Bureau through Interpol to CBI, the US authorities have said Rao should be put under provisional arrest till all the documents were handed over to India through diplomatic channels for his possible extradition to stand trial in Chicago.
According to reports, the US also informed CBI that Interpol had already been approached for issuance of a Red Corner Notice against Rao who was charged in the US in an alleged international racketeering conspiracy involving bribes worth USD 18.5 million to state and central government officials in India to allow the American firm undertake mining of titanium in Andhra Pradesh.
Meanwhile, Loksatta Party chief Jayaprakash Narayan suggested that the unfolding titanium mining scam in Andhra Pradesh be viewed as an opportunity to usher in laws to ensure sure and swift punishment to the corrupt.
