Court orders CBI probe into KCR's assets
Hyderabad, April 25 (INN): A Special CBI Court on Friday ordered a probe through the Central Bureau of Investigation into the assets of TRS president K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The Principal Special Court for CBI cases here has directed the Hyderabad anti-corruption bureau (ACB) unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation, to probe into the assets of TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao, party leader T. Harish Rao and Medak MP M. Vijayashanti.
The Principal Special Court Judge N. Balayogi issued the orders after hearing a petition filed by an advocate V. Balaji seeking directions to the CBI to register a FIR and inquire into the disproportionate assets of Mr. Chandrasekhar Rao, Mr. Harish Rao and Ms. Vijayashanti.
Ms. Vijayashanti was with TRS earlier but is contesting now on Congress ticket for Medak assembly seat.
It may be mentioned that the petitioner had earlier approached the High Court seeking probe into the illegal assets of these three leaders.
However, the High Court directed him to approach a lower court. In his petition, Vadera alleged that these leaders have amassed huge wealth by misusing power.
Sources in the court said the advocate had filed the petition earlier this month and after hearing it the court has issued its orders on Thursday.
However, sources in the CBI told that the special court did not posses the powers to direct it seeking inquiry into any issue. The investigating agency was governed by the courts such as High Courts and Supreme Court and State and Central Governments and only those constitutional bodies could direct the agency on taking probe on any issue.
Sources said this court had did the same thing in case of issuing similar directions in case of Emaar Properties issue against former minister J. Geetha Reddy recently.
They had informed the court that it should desist from issuing such directions and instead could direct the State Government to seek a probe so that the CBI could accept it as per its manual, CBI authorities stated.
In this specific case, the CBI would approach the High Court with a revision petition informing it that the special court could not issue such directions to it. Besides, they had also forwarded the court orders to the CBI headquarters, the sources added.
