Sonia to campaign in Chevella, Andole HYDERABAD: AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi is all set to address her second round of public meetings in Telangana on Sunday only to give the much needed impetus to the ruling party's ongoing poll campaign in the region.
The Congress party chief will address two public meetings- one at Chevella in Ranga Reddy district and another at Andole in Medak district- on Sunday during her second leg of poll canvassing in Telangana.
As the campaign phase for Telangana region, which is going to the polls on April 30, will end by Monday evening, the Congress Delhi bosses have begun burning the midnight oil so as to reap maximum electoral dividends from the formation of Telangana state.
As part of this exercise, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh descended on Telangana on Saturday and participated in a public meeting at Bhongir in Nalgonda district. This was followed by AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi's whirlwind tour across the region on Friday as part of his second and final round of campaign trail in the region.
Many other top guns of the party such as AICC state affairs incharge Digvijaya Singh and Union ministers Jairam Ramesh and Ghulam Nabi Azad too have camped in Telangana and have been undertaking no-holds barred campaign for the Congress candidates in the region.
Sunday would be the turn of the AICC supremo Sonia Gandhi to add more vigour to the Congress Party's ongoing poll campaign. Sonia Gandhi had, in fact, addressed a public meeting at Karimnagar this week as part of her first leg tour in the region.
However, soon after Sonia's meeting, the BJP's poll mascot Narendra Modi too had visited Telangana and addressed a series of meetings claiming total credit for creation of Telangana state.
With their BJP counterparts suddenly increasing the pace of their campaign trail and making die-hard attempts to get their pound of flesh from the Centre's T-decision, Congress managers have pressed the panic button and have begun leaving no stone unturned to improve their party's electoral fortunes in the new state.
While Ghulam Nabi Azad held a road show in Medak district on Saturday, Digvijaya Singh addressed a meeting in Adilabad district along with TPCC chief Ponnala Lakshmaiah on the same day.
