Narayana facing rough weather in Khammam Hyderabad : The Communist Party of India State secretary, K Narayana is fighting his debut electoral battle from Khammam Lok Sabha constituency, but his debut entry into the lower House, seems not an easy task.
Congress left the constituency to CPI as part of their seat-sharing arrangement. However, contrary to the initial expectations, the latest ground reports suggest that CPI has been losing its base in red bastion, particularly after the Communist Party of India- Marxist (CPM) joined hand with YSR Congress Party.
According to political analysts, the communist leader is fighting with two strong capitalists, the TDP ' BJP combine candidate and sitting MP Nama Nageswara Rao and YSRCP candidate, businessman turned politician Srinivasa Reddy. Though the TRS have some strength in the constituency, particularly in coal belt, is not counted among the strong contenders for April 30 battle.
Nageswara Rao trounced Renuka Chowdary of Congress in the 2009 Lok Sabha election by a margin of over one lakh votes. This time around he is pinning his hopes on factors such as 'Modi wave'.
TRS, BSP and Lok Satta have put up their candidates but political pundits expect that the main fight will be among the three contenders. CPI, however, bets on Narayan's clean image, party's organisational strength in some areas and the pro-Telangana sentiment.
Only Congress and CPI stood firmly for Telangana State creation. Since Congress has given the new State there is not much anti-incumbency factor also.
Though CPM sails with YSRCP, some of the party cadre (CPM) is still supporting Left ideology which may favour Narayana, a CPI leader said. TRS has fielded a candidate, Budan Baig Shaik, who is banking heavily on minority votes in Khammam, which consists of seven assembly segments - three for general candidates and rest reserved for those of SC and ST.
Meanwhile, it was learned from the sources that the TRS too ultimately support the YSRCP candidate as the party don't want to give any room for Congress 'CPI combine. However, CPI leaders believe that at the end of the day the situation would change in their favour and Narayana will make his debut entry into the parliament.
