EC in a bind over Allagadda poll Hyderabad: The sudden demise of YSR Congress Assembly candidate Shobha Nagi Reddy has thrown the Allagadda electorate into confusion. While the election commission has made it clear that the Allagadda poll cannot be countermanded as the deceased candidate did not belong to a recognized party, what still remains un'decided is whether her name would figure on the EVM as a candidate.
As per rules, after the withdrawal of candidates, the final list will be prepared and the same will be dis'patched to the EVM manufacturer so that only the names of the candi'dates left in the fray will be given the voting buttons on the EVM.
"Since Shobha died on April 23 midnight, the last day for with'drawals of nominations, we have to check with the provider (ECIL) whether her name is already included on the voting machine. If the name is not there, there would be no confusion," said EC officials.
