Pepper spray attack on Purandeswari CHITTOOR: Mild tension prevailed during the road show of BJP leader and Rajampet MP candidate Daggubati Purandeswari with the supporters of YSRC using pepper spray at Somala mandal headquarters on Sunday night.
Purandeswari was campaigning in various Assembly constituencies in Chittoor district falling under Rajampet Lok Sabha. On Sunday night, she was conducting a road show at Somala mandal headquarters falling under Punganur constituency when some persons, said to be YSRC supporters, used pepper spray.
Reports reaching here said attack was targetted at Purandeswari and other leaders on the vehicle. Punganur is represented by Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy who is contesting again for the same seat and his son, Mithun Reddy, is the opponent of Purandeswari for Rajampet MP seat.
Along with Purandeswari, Punganur TDP contestant M Venkatarama Raju, his wife Chandravadana and some other leaders were present and they got affected by the pepper spray. With burning eyes, the leaders on the vehicle got down from the vehicle for sometime even as chaos prevailed on the road.
Purandeswari, who regained her composure within a few minutes, continued the road show. 'It is unfair to resort to such attacks.
Every person has a right to campaign at any place and you cannot stop anyone,' she said and added that she will not be cowed down by such attacks. Meanwhile, YSRC activists raised slogans. As the war of words started to raise, police intervened.
