Hunt for Ponnur YSRC nominee in liquor case GUNTUR" The Excise Department has formed five teams to nab YSRC Ponnur MLA candidate Ravi Venkata Ramana in connection with a case related to illegal possession of spurious liquor.
The excise officials had booked a case against Venkata Ramana after they found nearly `15 to `20 lakh worth of illegally stored liquor in a godown at Marripalem village in Edladpadu mandal of the district on Saturday. It is said that the godown is owned by the GI Textiles company of which Venkata Ramana's wife Kalpana Kiran is a partner.
If Venkata Ramana is found guilty, he may have to face a maximum of three years of imprisonment apart from payment of fine.
Narasaraopet excise superintendent Manohar said that the department had already arrested two watchmen of the godown, K Koteswara Rao and Anakamma Rao in connection with the case.
'Following the directions of district collector and election officer S Suresh Kumar, we have formed five teams to nab Ravi Venkata Ramana, the third accused in the case, who is absconding,' he said.
Meanwhile, Venkata Ramana told newsmen during his election campaign in his constituency that the opposition parties were conspiring to implicate him in the case and even expressed doubts over the role of sitting MLA and TDP candidate Dhulipalla Narendra Kumar in the plot. 'We are not aware of the liquor stored in the godown,' he said.
