Independent candidate from Kovur abducted NELLORE: An independent candidate, Polam Reddy Srinivasulu Reddy, who is contesting Kovur Assembly seat on the symbol of Almirah was allegedly abducted by some unidentified persons.
Despite the incident happening at around 6.30 pm on Monday, the police came to know about the abduction only on Tuesday evening after his family members lodged a complaint with the Kovur police.
The victim is said to be the cousin brother of Kovur TDP candidate Polam Reddy Srinivasulu Reddy, who is also contesting the elections.
According to police, there was a heated exchange between some villagers of Choukacharla of Vidavaluru mandal and the candidate over tearing away of banners tied to Srinivauslu Reddy's vehicle at Vidavaluru mandal on Sunday evening.
Srinivasulu Reddy lodged a complaint with Vidavaluru police and some villagers were taken into custody and later released. Meanwhile, Reddy along with his agent went to Kovur MRO office for submitting his election expenditure at around 5.30 on Monday.
It is said that Srinivasulu was talking with some TDP functionaries outside the MRO office when his agent was submitting the accounts. Around 6.30 pm, the agent came out from the office and found Srinivasulu missing. A case has been registered by Kovur police and investigation is on.
